"Tom Pearce, Tom Pearce, lend me your grey mare. All along, down along, out along lea. For I want for to go to Widecombe Fair, With Bill Brewer, Jan Stewer, Peter Gurney, Peter Davy, Dan'l Whiddon, Harry Hawke, Old Uncle Tom Cobley and all, Old Uncle Tom Cobley and all".
Never found Tom Pearce, or Uncle Tom Cobley, we did find Sherlock Holmes though and the beast of Dartmoor! Now Dartmoor is a bit like Northumberland, err...but not as big although many a tale has been written about it. Our little jolly took us to the outskirts of Ashburton where we stayed in a very old hotel with it's very own ghosty!!!!! Ooooooo........super yummy scrummy food and quite a few nightcaps later the Ghost of Dartmoor was met with nothing but contented snoring!!!!
Now it is blimming chilly especially in February which is when we ventured onto the moor in search of the legend that is Tom Pearce! Well, anyone who has a song written about them must be pretty special! Having arrived in Widecombe in the Moor Mr Pearce along with Uncle Tom Cobley was how shall we say, conspicious in their abscence!! Gutted! So we bought a nice tea towel instead!
Princetown, there's a place! Dad says it has a B+B there for bad men! Dad however never worked in that particular prison! There's a super museum there where I met the legendary detective Mr Sherlock Holmes and Mum and Dad had a super time trying all kinds of ancient celtic masks!
Right I'm off for my dinner, Dad's making Moroccan kebabs, couscous and roasted veg! Yummy!
