Errr….dear readers I’m not sure what happened here? T’is all toooo much for a small monkey to take in despite being a well seasoned traveller!!!! One minute I’m minding my own monkey business, starved of inspiration for my book: A small money’s guide to travel, next minute Dad is throwing all our possessions into one of those metal box thingys..again!!!! Why? Well because My Mum had unsupervised internet access!!!! Yes, in a flurry of paperwork, needles, money and quite a bit of grumbling and growling we find ourselves on the train to Edinburgh, the start of this epic adventure!!!!!! There’s been tears along the way, especially saying goodbye to the mighty Angus our home and work hub for many a journey.
So Edinburgh airport what can I say? Up at 3am bundled unceremoniously into a taxi and piff paff puff we arrived in Brussels, home of that small nasty cabbage thing served up at Christmas! A quick snack and off on another plane this time our end destination is West Africa! Crikey I’m glad that my buddy Zippy is here!
The flight was grand, Belgium Airlines, comfortable, polite staff serving some quite tasty nosebag, a cheeky Belgium beer and glass of vino de fallover helped the hours pass(so did a little wind, I blame the fish!) We hit the tarmac and into the sweatbox!!!!
Described in an email as a ‘jolly fellow’ we were driven to a port which was very busy. By this time I’m utterly bewildered, but then Mum and Dad met a new friend called Captain Brian who promised to take us safely on his boat to Aberdeen???? Confused?? I am!!! We left Edinburgh, went to Europe, flew to Africa and now we’re boarding a boat back to Scotland???!?!?!?!?! I learnt later that this part of Africa has many different areas with the same name as places back home, Aberdeen and Gloucester to name but a few. I’m looking forward to going to Grimsby, well, if there is one, heard the fish and chips there are scrummy!!!!
And so having been up for 16hours and on the go for 30+hours it was all aboard the Sea Bird Express!!! Land Ahoy!!!!
Angus I raise a glass of Star beer to you old friend!!!
Stayed Tuned!!!!!!!
Ed xx
